Why Did I Decide to Write this Fomo Review?

As a marketer, I understand the importance of social proof to drive sales conversions.

People want what they see others have and enjoy. If your friend buys a new car, you want to buy the same car or better. If you see an influencer wearing a brand, you want the same outfit.

That’s how the human mind works:

We crave social proof and want to be updated on the latest trends. Fomo is a social proof automation tool that works on the principle of FOMO (fear of missing out).

It allows you to send purchase or review notifications to your site visitors in real-time. The more they see others buying a product or interacting with your business, the more they’ll want to do the same.

A simple concept applied brilliantly!

That is why I decided to write this Fomo review, to introduce you to this brilliant social proof automation tool that can be a game-changer for your business. Use it to send real-time social proof notifications to your site visitors and drive more conversions.

Don’t just take my word for it, feel free to read other customer reviews as well. Do your research and then make an informed decision.

Hopefully, this Fomo review will help make that easier for you by detailing all of its features, pros, and cons.

Detailed Fomo Review: Key Features and Benefits

Fomo is a social proof API built on the concept that people want something more if they see others have it.

When you see a full restaurant with a waiting list, you automatically assume that it must be a good one. Fomo works on the same principle and seeks to leverage this basic human behavior to grow businesses.

Want to know the best part?

Every business can use social proof to drive business growth and it is not just limited to ecommerce retailers. So, in that sense, Fomo really is a must-have app for every business.

What’s more, they provide exceptional customer support to their customers including live chat support during regular business hours. For hours when the live chat support is not available, you can send them a message and they will get back to you in less than a day.

They also have tons of useful resources and guides on their website that you can use to find an answer to all common questions.

Now that we have that cleared up, let’s get started with the detailed Fomo review of all its key features.

1. Social Proof Notifications

The key feature of Fomo is that you can use it to send social proof notifications to your prospective customers and increase conversions.

These notifications are sent in real-time to all site visitors when a user completes an action like making a purchase.

You can send a notification for individual user actions or club them together to show how many people bought a particular item. If you want, you can even send notifications about the total spending and the number of recent customers, as shown below.

The point is:

It is completely customizable and you can choose which notifications you want to send on which pages.

How do you customize your social-proof notifications?

You can do it with a simple one-line command like the one shown below.

Here are some other notable features of Fomo notifications that I would like to cover in this Fomo review.

Rules

This is the feature that allows you to set up conditional (if X, then Y) rules to your social-proof notifications.

Some examples of the kind of rules you can set up include:

  • If a user is on the purchase page, don’t show Fomo notifications.
  • If a user is on a product page, show only sales notifications.

Here’s what the interface looks like.

You can use different “if” and “then” conditions to create rules for your Fomo notifications to optimize your ecommerce product page or any landing page. I recommend experimenting with this to understand how it works before you go live.

Capture Ratio

This is a brilliant feature that I want to cover in this Fomo review.

As mentioned earlier, Fomo captures different types of social proof metrics from different sources. Some of these social proof actions happen more frequently than others and therefore you might see more notifications of purchases than reviews.

Capture ratio allows you to control the frequency of showing each type of social proof notification, to maintain a balance. So, if you have 10 sales notifications for every review notification, you can choose to capture fewer sales actions and reduce the ratio to whatever you like.

Events and Templates

Each action that a user performs on your website counts as an event. It could be adding products to the cart, making a purchase, leaving a review, etc. Every event generates one Fomo notification.

Templates, on the other hand, are the formats of Fomo notifications that you use.

Need an example?

Here is a template for a purchase notification:

“#{{ first_name }} just bought our product!”

Here is a visual representation to show the difference between events and templates.

Why are these important?

Well, that brings me to the next point that I actually want to cover in this Fomo review: Template actions.

Template Actions allow you to move events from one template to another. This is useful when you want to show notifications for only specific events on specific pages.

For example, if you have multiple products but only want to show sales notifications for one product on a landing page. To do that, follow these steps:

  • Go to the Rest API tab under Integrations and create a new template.
  • Go to the integrated app from where you’d like to copy a specific event.
  • Go to the Actions tab and set the rules.
  • In the example, adding the action will copy the events titled “special sale” and send it to the “purchase conversions” template. You can use this to copy and send specific events to specific templates.

Geo-Targeting

This Fomo review would not be complete without the mention of this brilliant feature called geotargeting.

As the name suggests, it allows you to target site visitors based on their current geographic location. This means that people will see social proof notifications from actions taken by other people in their area, instead of a stranger from across the world.

But, where can you find this option?

You can find the geotargeting feature on the settings tab of your dashboard, as shown below.

Pro Tip: Use the capture ratio to control the frequency of notifications and avoid overwhelming your site visitors with non-stop notifications.

2. Theme

Fomo has a theme editor that allows you to choose the look and feel of your notifications. It comes with numerous pre-designed themes that you can choose from, as shown below.

What’s more?

After you choose your theme, you can further fine-tune it and make it your own.

Pro Tip: Use the option to source color scheme from your website to make sure that your Fomo notifications fit naturally on your website.

3. Analytics

You use Fomo and start sending social proof notifications to your site visitors.

But, how will you know if it is actually benefitting you?

That’s where Fomo’s analytics features come into play. This Fomo review won’t be complete without discussing its analytics capabilities.

So, let’s get started.

First of all, Fomo measures the impact of Fomo notifications on your business using the Fomo Scorecard. You can use it to create a goal and track conversions, simple as that.

But, that is just for starters.

If you want detailed analytics, you can simply integrate Google Analytics with Fomo and you’re good to go. Fomo provides a one-step integration with Google Analytics and this is something that everyone should use.

Once you integrate with Google Analytics, you can see detailed analytics data to measure your website’s performance after installing Fomo.

Pro Tip: Go through the resources on the Fomo website to clearly set goals and integrate Google Analytics right from the start.

4. Fomo Broadcast

This is a lesser-known feature that I thought is important enough to be mentioned in this Fomo review.

Fomo Broadcast basically allows you to expand your social proof marketing to Facebook. It is a social proof marketing software solution that can convert your social proof notifications into Facebook posts.

However, to use this feature, you have to sign-up for it and give certain permissions on Facebook. Go through the resources on their website to find more information on how to do that.

Pro Tip: Use this feature if Facebook is an important marketing channel for you, otherwise, you can skip this.

5. Integrations

Given the sheer number of integrations that Fomo provides, it would not have been fair to skip this for this Fomo review. Fomo provides you with the option to integrate with over 100 different apps and platforms.

These integrations can help you collect all the different types of social proof data that you can display via your Fomo notifications. You can collect your user reviews from one place, sales data from another, social media notifications from different platforms, etc.

I recommend integrating with at least 4–5 platforms to collect all relevant social proof data. You can then show different kinds of social proof notifications, not just purchase-related ones.

Other than the integrations to gather social proof metrics, Fomo also provides other useful integrations.

Some popular integrations include:

  • Active Visitors — A live pageview counter that can count the number of online visitors on your website in real-time.
  • Google Analytics — Allows you to track all your website analytics data and view it directly from your Fomo dashboard.
  • Zapier — Allows you to connect with over 1,000 different apps.
  • Rest API — A developer-friendly API integration.

How to Set Up Custom Webhooks in Fomo

In this Fomo review, we have already discussed that you can capture social proof data from various sources by integrating those platforms with Fomo.

But, what if Fomo does not integrate with an app or platform that you use?

Well, Fomo is smart enough to address that problem by allowing you to set up custom webhooks to capture data from third-party platforms.

But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First, let’s understand what webhooks are and then discuss how to set them up.

Webhooks are basically data pings that a third-party app or platform can send to Fomo every time a specific event occurs. This allows you to capture social proof metrics even when the platform you use does not directly integrate with Fomo.

So, how can you set up webhooks for your Fomo account?

Simply follow the process below:

  • Go to the Integrations tab and click on “Webhook” and then connect with it.
  • You will get a webhook URL that you can go and paste in the input form of your chosen platform.
  • Trigger a test ping from there that will send the webhook data to Fomo.
  • Once Fomo receives the data, you will see a button “Show last payload” in your Webhook integration dashboard.
  • Click on it to see if it has captured all the information you want in your Fomo notification.
  • To map this data to your Fomo notifications, click on “add mapping rule”
  • Create as many rules and variables as you want and save them.
  • Go to templates and modify your template to include these variables.
  • Now your site visitors will see Fomo notifications based on the data captured from that platform.

Though it will take you some time to understand how it works, you will realize its benefits in the long term. Using webhooks, you can basically capture any social proof metric from any platform and use it to send Fomo notifications on your website.

Want to know the best part?

Fomo offers a 30-day trial, which is more than enough time to understand how the platform works and test if it drives any positive results for your business. What do you have to lose?

What Are Others Saying About Fomo?

“As a marketing software solution, its beauty is in its simplicity. Showcasing other visitor and buyer behavior as social proof gently nudges those on the edge of converting. It doesn’t shout at you. It doesn’t beg for you not to leave the site. It doesn’t follow you around the web when you do. It’s just passing by to offer a passing word of advice.”

Stuart, Surges

“Best social proof tool that you can find. Integration is super easy compared to another competitor of Fomo that we have been using, just one line of code in the header does all the necessary work. Seamless editing of the notifications and their rules are fantastic.”

Robertas, SocialStud.io

“Fomo really helped us improve our conversions, especially on our paid advertising landing pages and during product launches. We saw an increase in conversion rate of 20%+, which is great. I think the most useful part of Fomo is that having it live exposes other products in our portfolio to potential customers. We’ve seen customers increasing their cart sizes after seeing a notification that a customer somewhere bought a product they’d never tried. Lastly, this is the only social proof tool that doesn’t seem to slow our site down.”
